More Road Testing

First, I must begin with fanfare:

Ta-dah!! this is the 1000th post!!!!

ahem. I'll continue. I've been road testing socks again. So far these three pair are my favorites:
Kermit the socks P3200005 The Third Pair

I can wear these three pair with minimal droopage and stretch (although The Third Pair are mainly around the house slipper like socks.) Kermit and the third pair both are toe up short row heels. The striped socks are top down with heel flap. Eventually I'll get this sock thing down.

The Doctor Is In

The first Dishcloth Therapy session of 2009:

dishcloth therapy
Specs:
Pattern: Baby Fern (rav link)
Yarn: Bernat Cottontots
Needles: Clover size 7 (4.5 mm)
Commentary: Can you really go wrong with any dishcloth?

Some news from the homefront:
Offspring and The Stray have mutually decided to part ways. It seems very amicable. She came into town for the week-end (for my birthday) and she's fine. In her words, they just grew apart and started having different interests. (But mama is here with ice cream if she needs it.) Luckily, she has the blanket. (lol)

50 Book Challenge '09 #1

Eternal Treblinka by Charles Patterson
I've had this book for many years and only recently got around to reading it. Mr. Patterson is not an animal rights person by trade. He is an historian, so he is truly writing this from an historical perspective. Definitely not a light read, but worth it. Quite honestly it scared me.

Fightin' Words

I might get a lot of flack for this; I'm not sure. I gotta tell ya', I just don't get fingerless mitts. I've made a pair, but the one time I wore them, my hands and fingertips still felt like icicles. So, if you're reading this and you live in northern climes...I'm begging you to 'splain them to me, Lucy.

A Rant

Yesterday I was speaking to a young man (early to mid 20's) and I asked him if he would consider making our fair city his home for a while. He is an excellent teacher and cares deeply for our students. His response was non-committal and he said the state was a little too "red" for him. He's always wanted to live in Seattle.

This kind of stuff always burns me up. In the last 2 years, I've met young people who speak of changing the world and then go off to live where everyone thinks like they do. How do you change anything if you don't stay where change is most needed?

Are there narrow minded biggots where I live? Yup. You betcha. And ironically, most of them seem younger than I am. So what do I do? I stay here and try to be an example for others. Maybe I suck at it. I don't know, but at least I'm trying to be the change I want to see in the world.*

Things I'm thinking about...

First FO 2009

I suspect 2009 will not be as a productive a year as 2008.

First FO '09 Patty Hearst?

My family claims I look cute in this. I'm still not sure. I can't help but think of Patty Hearst.

I would really like to craft a hat I look decent in. I would like to start wearing a head covering at synagogue (most women don't at out synagogue...and definitely not the younger set, but I'd like to...especially since I've been called to the bimah two weeks in a row to recite the blessing before the reading of the Torah and it holds folks up waiting for me to cover my head.)
