Socks- The Road Test

I've been wanting to tell you guys this for WEEKS.

You know all that sock knitting I did last Summer? Well, I've started wearing them since the weather turned cold. I've learned more about my sock knitting from wearing them than knitting them.

1. I make my socks too big.
2. I should use smaller needles for the ankle portion.
3. Short row heels fit me best.
4. The legs of my socks should be longer.
   

Most of the time I end up with the leg portion schlumped around my ankle and the foot portion feeling a little wide.

The 365 List

I really don't like using the word "resolution". I never keep them and then feel like a failure at the end of the year. I'm trying something new this year: The 365 List.

3 things to work on

1. Spend less. No more cookbooks or yarn this year. I've got enough of both to last a year. Believe me. I can make do with what I have in a lot of areas. I don't know why I have half the crap I do.
   
2. Green it up. I really can be incredibly wasteful. Paper plates for cat treat distribution*, paper towels for drying my hands. I can knit and I love dishcloths why not put them to actual use.
   
3. Smile more. I can be so negative. Whenever I get negative, I need to stop myself and say at least one positive thing.

6 Things I want to do

1. Choose one vegan cookbook a month and only make recipes from that book.
2. Use my bread maker at least 2 times a month.
3. Make one dinner entree using tofu.
4. Make one sweater that I actually wear.
5. Attend knit nite again and then go at least once a month.
6. Read 18 books (which would be one more than I managed last year.)

5 Things to get rid of

1. Self criticism
2. Self doubt
3. Bottled water (see Number 3 in "Things to work on")
4. Non-vegan products (as I run out of them)
5. Excuses- either I did something or I didn't. Either I'm going to follow through or I'm not.

*As soon as I finish the mega pack of plates hubadub brought home from Sam's, I've got 4 melamine plates waiting in the wings. Too bad the mega pack is gonna last a year.

2008 Wrap-up (A Special Flashback Friday)

A day or two late (So I can count it as a Flashback Friday...cheating, I know, but I'm trying to keep my labels to a minimum.)

The Crafty side of 2008

Total FO's: 48 (although there may be one or two I forgot about.)

Total number of socks: 10 (and now most of them have been road tested and I've got lots to say about them....stay tuned!)
Total dishcloths: 10 (and here's where the "some I forgot" comes in to play. I know I made a few for the teacher's lounge at work and some colleagues, but I didn't photograph them, so they didn't make it into my Flickr "FO's 2008" group.)
Total Baby items: 7 (one for a friend, the rest for charity)
Total scarves: 6 (4 of which were the same pattern)

The Miscellaneous side of 2008

• I changed my blog name.
  
• I wanted to wrap up 2008 with 1,000 posts. I didn't make it, but I think I can manage it in 2009.
• I went vegan.
• Offspring really went off to college. (In other words, the Stray went up there to start college and now they never come home ha ha)
• Offspring learned to knit, but it didn't really stick.

I guess that's about it. I'm pretty boring, but I like it that way.
