Thursday, November 5 was the inaugural meeting of the South Alabama Fiber Enthusiasts Guild. We spent a lot of time hashing out who we are and what we will do. I wasn't the secretary, but here's what I remember we talked about (and really I should have written this post last Thursday while it was still fresh in my mind.)
- 18 people were in attendance. According to our "founder" (for lack of a better word), several people also contacted her and said they couldn't be at the meeting, but wanted to be included in the guild.
- We are all inclusive. Knit, crochet, quilting, sewing, tatting....heck, paper-making!
- Anyone in the state is welcome to join. Don't let the "South Alabama" part fool you.
- Business memberships will be available (free advertising in the monthly newsletter!)
- We are legit. We are going to have By-laws and everything! (Although I'm not sure how I ended up on that committee.)
- We are hoping to have an internet presence as well. "Wiki" was brought up.
- We already have our first "event"- providing hand-crafted decorations for the Christmas tree at Old Alabama Town
- One local business has already offered a 15% discount to our members. Sweet!
