Like most groups we have a different bunch on any given gathering, but there's a core group that seems to be the most regular attendees. (I'm curious to know if your cast is similar or different.)
The Organizer/Mom
She has contact info for almost everyone and knows fiber artists from all four corners of the state (and a couple other states, too.) She posts messages about meeting time changes and scopes out locations when someone suggests we change. She has single-handedly started the SAFE Guild. She is always available to talk or just listen to you vent.
The Contrarian/Curmudgeon
Actually, two of us are currently competing for this title. Generally we hate people. They suck. But everyone at knit nite is ok. If you say "up", we are genetically compelled to say "down." If you swoon over a yarn, something in our wiring makes us mistrust said fiber. Nothing is that awesome.
The Fearless One
There is no pattern she has left untried. No math she cannot do. No craft has escaped her notice. She's done almost all of them. And if she can't find the pattern, she'll make one up. All this while working full time and taking care of a toddler!
The Young Unsung mother
This young lady is a stay at home mom to two boys (ages 3 and 5) and is beginning to dye her own fiber. She has a degree in textiles (I think. I can't exactly remember) and is just amazing. Anything she needs for this dye adventure she just builds. She recently dyed some self striping that just blew my mind. Knit Nite is her playdate and we really miss her when she can't make it.
The Transplant
She has recently arrived from "The North." She patiently puts up with comments about Yankees (Southern Graciousness is rubbing off on her...) She still giggles a little when we refer to 50 degrees as "freezing." She's having to adjust her knitting projects and yarn for the weather differential. Add to the mix that she is also experiencing her first year of teaching. So that's culture shock and 1st year teacher shock all at once. To say "what a trooper", doesn't even begin to give her enough credit. She has kept a great sense of humor.
Overheard at tonight's gathering:
Transplant: Our Sunday location closed without warning. Are we going to try to find another place to meet on Sundays?
Curmudgeon 1: How about Hooter's?
Curmudgeon 2: OOO! We could be Knits and Tits!
Mom: No. Now behave.
