Classification System - A Scientific Approach to My Projects

Surely everyone has a vague memory of taxonomy from high school Biology (in fact, it's the only thing I remember...King Phillip Came Over For Greasy Spaghetti)

Domain: Projects

Kingdom: Craft
Members of this group are able to calm the senses (as opposed to the Kingdoms "Work", "Family" or "Organizing")

Phylum: Fiber crafts
this would be crafts that are completed with fiber (as opposed to "Paper" or "Bead")

Class: Knit or Crochet
members of the knit class are completed with two needles while members of the crochet class are completed with a hook.

Order: Yarn or Thread
"Yarn" is an all encompassing term. There are sub-orders. Examples include "novelty", "cheap", "acrylic" etc.

Family: In Progress or In Mind
Projects belonging to the "In Mind" Family may never actually be seen in the flesh. They generally hide in the dark recesses of my head. One can spot signs of the "In Mind" project, such as the pattern or yarn, but the actual project rarely appears.

Projects belonging to the "In Progress" Family love to be seen. They can be found on bedside tables, dressers, bookshelves, bags etc. The population of these projects can change seasonally, with higher populations in the months of June and July and a two week period in December.

Genus: Old or New
Old Projects are aged 3 months or above.

New Projects are less than 3 months old

Species: Accessible or Inaccessible

Accessible Projects are availble to work on. They are still with their pattern, yarn, needles or hook. All notations as to pattern row etc are present and can be picked up and started with little thought to where I left off.

Inaccessible projects may be stuffed into closets (or even forgotten, Fiber needed to complete the project may be scattered or difficult to locate. Pattern is no where to be seen and my place in the pattern is difficult to discern.

Example: Socks for Hubby

This Project belongs to the Craft Kingdom and Fiber Craft Phylum. It is of the Knit Class in the Yarn Order (sport weight/wool acrylic blend sub orders.) It is a member of the In Progress Family and Old Genus. Species: Accessible.
